Rogue Legends

You’re gonna want to turn your sound on for this one! The first

Legend available along with this update is a BTD rogue-lite adventure, featuring a randomly generated replayable single player campaign.

~ Update 47.0 Patch Notes

Rogue Legends is a DLC for Bloons TD 6, announced by Ninja Kiwi[1] on January 15, 2025 and released on February 4, 2025, it costs $17.79 USD to purchase and unlock this mode. Unlocking it also grants Artifacts, unique profile picture and banner, alongside the soundtrack "Rogue" for the Jukebox.

This game mode introduces a single-player campaign split into 4 (originally 5) stages each with increasing difficulty and a different Boss Bloon. Additionally after you complete the campaign, CHIMPS mode is unlocked where you can progress endlessly, but with a smaller party and less starting hearts.

General Overview

Placeholder other

Upon beginning a Rogue Legend, the player begins at a specific campsite. The player's character, Rogue Monkey, must travel to tiles to battle against bloons. Clicking towards tiles will set him to a new one-way location.

During a Bloon tile, the player takes on a variety of game modes. Every 5 rounds you get 3 choices of either boosts, temporary artifacts or towers. Some permanent artifacts adds towers to your party. In game, Upgrades cost 38.5% more, but placement is 20.23% cheaper than total on Medium. After completion, you get a Token (multiple Tokens in later tiles).

If you interact with a campfire tile, you get 4 choices, Recruit, Mentor, Enhance, and Heal

  • Recruit: Gives a choice of 5 towers (tier 5 towers if it is a Legendary Tile) to add to your party. However, you can only have 10 towers in your party; if you go over the limit, you have to remove one of your towers.
  • Mentor: Increases the tier of a tower in your party by 1 (can be upgraded to tier 5 if it is a Legendary Tile) (e.g. 2-0-1 Wizard can be upgraded to 3-0-1 or 2-0-2)
  • Enhance: lets you pick one 1 common artifact you own and level it up to rare (Legendary if it is a Legendary Tile).
  • Heal: Heals up to 2 hearts (full amount if it is a Legendary Tile).

On some tiles there's a Shop where you can trade Artifacts and Tokens for other Artifacts. Shops with sparkles can be traded for legendary artifacts and campfires with sparkles can upgrade monkeys to tier 5s or upgrade rare artifacts to legendary.

If the player loses a tile or restarts, Rogue Monkey loses a heart. If he loses all 5 hearts, the game is over, and the player must restart the entire campaign from the beginning. Simply exiting out of a game does not count as forfeiting a game (except in Mini Boss tiles) and will not lose hearts.

CHIMPS

If the player successfully passes Stage 4 on normal difficulty, they unlock CHIMPS Mode. The differences from standard gameplay are as follows:

  • Rogue Monkey starts with 2 hearts instead of 5
  • Hard difficulty costs
  • Curses for more Rogue XP

Tiles

Bloon Encounters

Players may confront tiles that block in the way. Most of these tiles contain Bloon Encounters. They contain the usual rules of standard BTD6. However, instead of standard rounds, all rounds utilize the rounds of Rogue Legends.

Refer to #Rounds for more info.

Mini Games

There are three types of optional mini games: Race, Endurance Race, and Least Cash. All of them involve three tiers of score that reward a bonus Artifact when achieved. The player is allowed to retry if they don't achieve any goal, but it costs 1 heart to retry.

Race

TBA

Endurance Race

Your goal is to get as many pops as possible in a race style format with a timer (usually roughly 5 minute's)

Least Cash

Your goal is to spend the least amount of cash as well as defeating the amount of rounds, depending on how much money you spend, determines if you get a common, rare, or legendary artifact.

Mini Bosses

Mini Bosses have the same rules as Boss Rush except use the round sends of Rogue Legends and enables Powers. The aim in Mini Bosses is to gain enough score to collect an Artifact as a reward, with its rarity increased depending on score thresholds.

Like Boss Rush, the following Bosses are available for Mini Bosses: Bloonarius, Dreadbloon, Phayze, Blastapopoulos.

Loot Chests

Choose one of three free Artifacts. Can be rerolled for free if there is Mighty Mulligan (or something).

Camp Fires

Campfires when visited give the player 4 options.

Mentor: Choose 1 of 5 monkeys to add to your party. Can be rerolled at the cost of 3 tokens

Upgrade: Upgrade 1 monkey in your party once, this does increase the price of the monkey proportionally to the upgrade picked.

Enhance: Enhance one artifact from common to rare.

Rest: Heal 2 hearts.

Legendary Augment

The sparkly tiles give different effects depending on the effected tile.

Bloon stage: The bloon stage will provide a legendary artifact on completion

Campfire: Will enhance all of the campfires effects. Recruit now ___. Mentor now ____. Enhance allows you to also enhance an artifact to legendary rarity. Rest heals 3 hearts.

Final Boss

Plays like Boss Events but instantly on the current boss's tier.

Rounds

In Rogue Legends, Rounds in all modes except Mini Boss (which use the Phayze One roundset) are pre-determined, but scale faster than Standard Mode. Each round also has separate Pre-Round Comments.

Artifacts

Main article: Artifacts

Artifacts come in common, rare, and legendary varieties. Most will boost some stat while reducing another. Many artifacts are category specific to one category. Certain artifacts are only accessible from specific types of tile.

Some artifacts are permanent, while some are unlocked only for a specific bloon battle. On Merchant tiles, artifacts can be traded with Tokens, or other pre-existing artifacts in exchange for new artifacts from the Merchant.

Players are allowed to extract an Artifact, removing it from the current campaign but allowing it to be selectable for a starting Artifact in future campaigns.

Practice Mode

During Practice Mode, the player creates a simulated version of a Bloon Encounter on any map (including "special" maps such as Blons). The player can choose their starting party as normal. However, there are a few differences.

  1. If the player loses, they can pay Monkey Money to restart the round they lost on.
  2. Unlike a regular Rogue Legends tile, the player can enter Freeplay Mode after beating Round 65.

Demo

The demo is Rogue Legends Preview, which is limited to 3 Bloon Encounters and the player is forced to start with normal Quincy with no bonus starting Artifacts other than his own Splodey Darts Artifact.

Trivia

  • Rogue Legends DLC resembles the gaming of Bloons Monkey City, with same expand progress gaming.
  • According to JoeyRainstorm from Ninja Kiwi, Lych is not included in Rogue Legends due to balance and technical reasons.[3]
  • The following Hero loadouts have noticeable references that share a common theme:
    • Obyn Greenfoot: Druid synergy with Obyn.
    • Sleigh Churchill: Santa's Workshop at the North Pole. Abundant Choices is a reference to generosity, the Cold Snap Ice is a reference to the cold, and the Faster Engineering Engi is a reference to mass-manufacturing of toys.
    • Fusty the Snowman: The cold. Both Monkeys have freezing attacks, and his starting artifact involves freezing.
    • Sushi Bento: Local sushi shops, with the Marketplace and base Dart Monkey being the closest references. Mighty Mulligan is a possible reference to the variety of available items on the menu.
    • Smudge Catt: Cats, particularly the Cats Meow starting artifact. Perishing Potions and Faster Production Spactory possibly refer to cleaning up stinky cat litter.
    • Dread Pirate Brickell: Exotic beasts, the kraken, and pirates. Ironically, but possibly for balance reasons, Cannon Ship is not in her starting party.
    • Lifeguard Brickell: Possibly a reference to the Arctic Wind + Support Chinook selling interaction, but also separately credible - the IFR Heli would be the rescue team, and the Deep Freeze Ice can be upgraded to Arctic Wind to act as a lifebouy.
    • Sauda: Synergizing Level 11+ "Extra Damage to Harmed" Extra damage versus bloons inflicted by any valid status effect (unspecified damage), and the Blade Shooter (which resembles her sharp blades, just like her quote "My blades are legendary!", also her short range and sharps).
    • Psimbals: Music. Echosense Network is a reference to Alluring Melody, and Biggest Beacon likely references improvements to radio channels. Enhanced Eyesight Dart is the only outlier.
    • Corvus: Dark wizard with a cauldron. The 2-0-0 Bomb looks like a cauldron if the barrel faces upwards. The 0-0-2 Wizard is rather obvious.
