Sklaverei

Overview

Sklaverei (聖隷 (スクラヴェライ), Sukuraverai; German for "Slavery", Japanese for "Holy Slave") is a technique used by various Sternritter with their Quincy: Vollständig active.

Description

Sklaverei368B

This technique enhances the Quincy's basic ability of "Reishi convergence" (霊子の集束, Reishi no shūsoku) to its utmost limits, achieving the "absolute enslavement of Reishi" (霊子の絶対隷属, Reishi no zettai reizoku). It can literally tear away the components that make up spiritual objects, such as those that make up Hueco Mundo and Soul Society, as well as the bodies of spiritual beings.[1][2] Even though all Hollows are poison itself to the Quincy, it allows the Quincy to absorb them as it does not appear to endanger their souls as demonstrated by Quilge Opie when he absorbs Ayon.[3][4][1] However, it is not efficient to do so, as absorbing a Hollow results in the Quincy gaining Hollow-like features and the user is unable to completely control the acquired power.[5] The absorbed power and any associated transformation vanish over time.[6] Additionally, Sklaverei requires the user's Heiligenschein to function and the technique automatically ceases if the halo is destroyed while in use,[7] although Uryū Ishida's Quincy: Vollständig is an exception. Sklaverei can be used to restore one's stamina and it appears to heal minor wounds.[8]

The Sternritter can use Sklaverei to further empower their Quincy: Vollständig and abilities, changing their appearances. In most cases, the basic appearance of Quincy: Vollständig is simply a Heiligenschein and a pair of wings. By using Sklaverei, additional accessories are added to the Sternritter's entire body.[9][10][8]

Trivia

  • The English localization of the manga and the anime adaptation of the Thousand Year Blood War Arc both transcribe the technique as Sklave Rai.[11][12]
  • In the manga, only Quilge Opie is explicitly confirmed to use Sklaverei.[1] The anime has other Sternritter use it and introduces new Sklaverei-enhanced Quincy: Vollständig forms for Giselle Gewelle,[9] Meninas McAllon,[9] Liltotto Lamperd,[9] Candice Catnipp,[9] Robert Accutrone,[10] and Uryū Ishida.[13][8]
    • The enhanced forms of Meninas, Liltotto, and Uryū debut before their base Vollständig.[9][13]
  • In Ryōgo Narita's novel Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World, it is described that Sklaverei comes from the Heiligenschein that is created when Quincy activate their final form, Quincy: Vollständig, and the power of Sklaverei makes it possible to decompose all surrounding Reishi and forcibly enslave it. Hollow Reishi, which is naturally poisonous to Quincy, can also be taken in as harmless once it is completely decomposed. Liltotto states that the activation of Vollständig would have allowed her and the others to absorb all the Reishi of the Arrancar they are fighting using Sklaverei, as opposed to using The Glutton to eat them which would have given her severe heartburn as "poison is still poison".[14]

Klub Outside Trivia

  • According to Q&A #599 by Tite Kubo on his fansite "Klub Outside", Quilge's usage of Sklaverei was so potent due to the unique ability of his Quincy: Vollständig: Piskiel in that it has "the highest capacity for the capture and enslavement of Reishi among all Quincy".[15]
