The Pícaro (ピカロ, Pikaro; Spanish for "Rogue/Rascal") are a collective of childlike Arrancar that split off from a single Hollow, and were the 102nd Arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen's army.[1]
Appearance
The Pícaro consist of 200 different child-like Arrancar.[1] Aside from their tattered cloaks, they differ greatly in appearance from each other. Notably, the one that acts as the leader has headphone-like mask fragments and typically sports a bored expression.
Personality
Due to being a collective of Arrancar children, the Pícaro fittingly have a very childish mindset. They prefer to "play" with others over hurting or eating them, though in the Pícaro's mindset, chasing unwilling victims and blasting them with Cero is the equivalent of "playing" with them. This does make it easiy to convince them into cooperation by promising to play with them later on, as Yachiru Kusajishi did.
Likewise, in their childish innocence, the Pícaro are noted not to see the world as "Hollows versus Shinigami", but rather as "good people versus bad people", and therefore refrain from eating "good people". Indeed, the Pícaro would much sooner choose to help a "good" Shinigami over a "bad" Hollow. Because of this, and Don Kanonji's kindness towards them, the Pícaro helped Kanonji defeat Sōya Azashiro as "Karakura White".
History
The Pícaro were once a group of Human children who were abandoned and left to die of starvation. The children became Hollows and eventually these Hollows merged together into a single Gillian, who started to feel lonely and guilty due to devouring the others. After evolving into an Adjuchas, the Hollow went to look for other deceased children to have company, turning them into Hollows and either feeding them parts of itself or assimilating them.[1]
During Baraggan Louisenbairn's reign, the Pícaro were allowed to roam free across the worlds, and when Sōsuke Aizen took over, he named them an Espada. At some point, they planned to save Yūichi Shibata from Shrieker to add the deceased child to their collective, but were disappointed to find out a Shinigami had already performed Konsō on him.[1]
After they were demoted to Privaron Espada, Aizen tasked Runuganga to keep the Pícaro inside Las Noches in order to prevent them from causing too much trouble in the Human World.[1]
Plot
Bleach: Spirits Are Forever With You
In the seventeen months after Sōsuke Aizen's defeat, the Pícaro, now free to roam Hueco Mundo, pursue an unwilling Nel Tu and her companions Dondochakka Birstanne and Pesche Guatiche in a game of "eternal tag". Despite the Pícaro's innocent motives, they get carried away and start firing Cero at the other Arrancar. Eventually, Pesche and Dondochakka decide to fight back and launch a Cero Sincrético at the Pícaro, knocking half of them unconscious. In response, the other half all fire Cero at once, blasting a large crater in the sands of Hueco Mundo. Bored with their current playmates, and wondering if they got vaporised, the Pícaro wonder who to play with next. With Rudbornn Chelute too unwilling to cooperate and Kukkapūro and Gantenbainne Mosqueda's whereabouts unknown, the Pícaro contemplate bothering Ashido Kanō instead, but notice they are being watched by a familiar female Arrancar. As the Pícaro recognize her as Roka Paramia, she vanishes into threads and the Pícaro try to find her using Pesquisa. When that fails they decide to make a game out of it; whoever finds Roka first wins. Grabbing their unconscious comrades, the Pícaro open a Garganta and leave.[1]
