Slaten was the ship's doctor on the Space Princess at the time of the Scorpio crew's raid on the ship, a replacement for the expected doctor. He met Tarrant and Dayna and realised Dayna was suffering from exobriddian withdrawal. Believing they were natives of Zerok and thus she wouldn't be treated on Earth, Slaten contacted the ship's captain, Kennedy, about having her returned. Kennedy agreed to send out a call for a ship to take her back to Zerok, which was answered by Scorpio.
While Slaten and Tarrant were transferring Dayna off the ship, Slaten was held at gunpoint by Avon but fled when the delirious Dayna accidentally knocked Avon's gun away. Slaten ran into Keiller and Soolin, and Keiller promptly killed him. (D: Gold)
