Plaxton was a doctor of physics and head of the Federation Space Drive Research Center. She took refuge from the Intergalactic War with a band of Space Rats, who gave her facilities to continue her research in exchange for technical assistance with their transport needs. She escaped on the Scorpio and installed the photon drive as their main propulsion method but was killed making the last connection as the engines started due to Avon's programming the drive to activate immediately without giving her time to get to safety.
