2016 was the second and concluding year of the second iteration of the BIONICLE series. It is the thirteenth year to have a story and the sixteenth since the debut of the original BIONICLE story. It continues the story that began in 2015, involving the Toa as they face the evil Makuta and his minions on the island of Okoto.
In July, a LEGO version of the Mask of Ultimate Power was revealed alongside a LEGO version of Makuta from the Netflix, LEGO BIONICLE: The Journey to One, series. However, on the 29th of that same month, LEGO officially announced that BIONICLE would be ending again.
