I Was Here

I Was Here is a song by Beyoncé from her fourth album, titled 4. It achieved commercial success despite no single release and lyrically makes reference to her career and wanting to make a difference. "I Was Here" was written by Diane Warren and was produced by Ryan Tedder, Brent Kutzle, Knowles and Kuk Harrell. It is the only song on the record that was not co-written by Beyoncé. Warren described it as the best song she had ever written.

Lyrics

Verse 1
I wanna leave my foot prints on the sands of time
Know there was something that, something that I left behind
When I leave this world I'll leave no regrets
Leave something to remember so they won't forget
Chorus
I was here
I lived, I loved
I was here
I did, I've done everything that I wanted and it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here
Verse 2
I wanna say "I lived each day until I died"
To know that I meant something in somebody's life
The hearts I have touched will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference
And this world will see
Chorus(2x)
Bridge
I just want them to know that I gave my all, did my best
Brought someone some happiness
Made this world a little better just because
I was here
