Prelate

The Prelate of the Temple of Kahooli is a religious figure living just outside Kenting Rush in Betrayal at Krondor. He can be visited in Chapter 3.

Overview

The Prelate lives in a small house with strange markings on the door. He is well guarded due to repeated attempts on his life by those who misunderstand the justice of his actions in inflicting divine consequences on those who break the rule of law. The lector of the Temple of Kahooli recommends him to those who wish to learn about the sect's strictly enforced Codes of Piety.

Chapters 1-2

The party finds the Prelate's house surrounded by far too many guards to defeat. If they approach, the guards mistake them for an ambush and call for the Prelate to get down before engaging in battle. Although each individual battle can be won, no bodies remain afterward and the house never runs out of guards.

Chapter 3

After speaking to the lector of the Temple of Kahooli, the party can pass the guards and knock on the Prelate's door.

The party is admitted by the Prelate, who tells them about his journey to achieving his position and agrees to explain the Codes of Piety in exchange for a 50-sovereign donation to the Temple. If they agree, he leads them to a makeshift altar in a small room for an hour-long ranting sermon about Kahooli, the Warror God of Vengeance, Unraveler of Mysteries into Truth. Acceptable Acts of Piety include:

  • Subjugation of the Will: renouncing all ties to king and country
  • Mortification of the Flesh: cleansing oneself of all appetites of the flesh
  • Subordination of Service: passing the water curtain and praying to Kahooli for one full cycle of seasons

Trivia

  • Before meeting with the Prelate, the endless supply of guards around his house allows the party to increase their Defense, Melee, and Crossbow and Casting Accuracy by repeatedly engaging in battle.
