Ogre

Ogres, classified as Highland Ogres and Sentinel Ogres, are hostile humanoids who live in the Northlands in Betrayal at Krondor. They first appear in Chapter 4.

Overview

Ogres are mainly encountered in the Northlands, but may occasionally travel south into the Kingdom of the Isles. They generally, though not always, carry Two-Handed Broadswords but wear no armor.

Sentinel Ogres

A Sentinel Ogre faces Owyn in a grey stone tunnel. The ogre has a bald head with a long fringe of black hair and is wearing reddish brown trousers, a black sash hanging to mid thigh, and calf length dark boots. A strap passes over his right shoulder and under his left arm. His forearms are protected by brown gauntlets and he wields a long sword in his left hand.

Sentinal Ogres are usually accompanied by Witch Hags, Tor Giants, or moredhel. They incur double damage from the Evil Seek spell, which, if used on a Sentinel or Highland Ogre as the initial target, significantly increases the damage done to subsequent targets.

Highland Ogres

Gorath faces a Highland Ogre on a snowy landscape in front of the prone body of a slain moredhel. The Highland Ogre has cornflower blue skin and black hair, and is wearing leather arm guards, leather straps to affix weapons to his back, brown fur boots, reddish brown trousers, and a black sash hanging to mid thigh, and is brandishing a sword with both hands.

Aside from their blue-skinned sprites, the chief distinction of Highland Ogres is that they are spellcasters. In addition to their swords, they usually know at least three dangerous combat spells, which they can cast if not standing adjacent to any other person.

Like Sentinel Ogres, Highland Ogres take double damage from Evil Seek, and they are also affected for twice as many rounds by Thoughts Like Clouds.[1]
