Captain Kroldech is a murderous moredhel commander in Betrayal at Krondor. He figures in the plot of Chapter 5.
Overview
Kroldech is known as far south as Krondor for a savage practice of taking over "empty" dwellings after ensuring their availability by murdering the occupants, leaving a set of signature red marks above the doorframe to indicate the number of victims killed there.
During Delekhan's planned invasion of the Kingdom of the Isles, Kroldech murdered three inhabitants of a house in Raglam and set up a headquarters there to plan an all-out assault on Northwarden. He commissioned a massive wooden catapult from a local engineer but refused to pay for the work, instead locking himself in his command post to create battle plans for a goblin offensive to accompany the invasion. Patrons of Raglam's Hobble meanwhile discussed his receipt of the final orders for the upcoming push southward and the dubious feasability of its success, and the angry engineer sabotaged the catapult, loaded it with a poisonous payload, and secretly aimed it at Kroldech's house.
Chapter 5
Outside Raglam, the party remarks on the peculiarity of finding the catapult, with one easily-replaced gear missing, being situated to aim into the moredhel town rather than safely elsewhere.
Upon reaching the town, they recognize the three red marks above a Raglam doorframe as indicating Kroldech's presence there, and do not confront him so as not to attract unwanted attention. They can also learn of Kroldech's recent activities from the inn's patrons and the engineer.
After repairing and using the catapult, they enter the targeted building to find Kroldech lying dead against the door, his body in a fetal position with his hands clutching his throat. Conducting a swift search, they leave with a Sword of Lims-Kragma, 150 sovereigns in a small pouch, and Note containing the vital moredhel company orders they came to retrieve.
