The holidays/festivals that take place in the Beastars universe.
Meteor Festival
The Meteor Festival (隕石祭, Inseki-sai?) serves as a tribute to the spirits of the dinosaurs, believed to have met their end during a summer long ago due to a meteorite's impact. In contemporary times, it has transformed into a symbolic gesture, particularly on the festival's closing day. Couples place candles within a structure resembling the meteorite that ended the era of the dinosaurs, symbolizing their eternal togetherness.
Odd Soul Festival
The Odd Soul Festival (奇魂祭, Ki tamamatsuri?) is a festival held in the odd months of the year (January, March, May, July, September, and November). It's a time when herbivores express gratitude for having not been eaten by a carnivore during the year, and beseech for continued protection in the future.
Central to this festival is the veneration of a frozen bone from a prehistoric herbivore, the Brachiosaurus, which is regarded as a sacred deity. This bone is submerged in a tank of water, transforming it into some kind of holy water.
To secure protection until the next odd month, herbivores make an offering of a coin to the sanctuary. Additionally, they have the option to acquire an amulet for added safeguard. Those who forego these precautions are deemed to remain vulnerable to becoming a carnivore's prey.[1]
Animal Society Basic Knowledge Quiz Contest
The Animal Society Basic Knowledge Quiz Contest (獣社会基礎知識クイズ対決, Kemono shakai kiso chishiki kuizu taiketsu?) is a contest that is carried out every time a new contender emerges to join the turf wars celebrated on Meat-Loving Day within the Black Market. These contests are overseen by the Black Market Residents' Association, tasked with determining whether the fresh challengers possess sufficient knowledge of the animal world to participate in the turf wars. This is vital as participating groups must maintain effective control over their territories and avoid conflicts with animals from other domains.
Legoshi is the first challenger to express interest in joining the turf wars. Notably, it has been nearly two decades since the previous contest was held, and the participants from that time remain unknown.[2]
Meat-Loving Day
Meat-Loving Day (愛肉の日, Ai niku no hi?) is a festival dedicated entirely to the celebration of meat. It occurs on the last Friday of every month, and it is exclusively held within the confines of the Black Market, the only place where such practices are permitted. This festival serves as a platform for criminal groups to engage in territorial conflicts and assert their dominance within the Black Market.
To gauge the power and influence of a group in the market, a ritual is conducted wherein the blood of their members is collected and a torched is lightened on them. The group whose burnt blood emits the most potent aroma is declared the victor. Over the years, the Shishigumi has consistently held a dominant position in the Black Market due to their success in this festival.[3]
Rexmas
Rexmas (レクスマス, Rekusumasu?) is a public holiday rooted in the belief that following the catastrophic meteorite impact that led to the extinction of dinosaurs in prehistoric times, a remarkable transformation occurred. It is believed that a T-Rex came back to life and developed wings, evolving into a bird and thus ensuring the survival of the species. This holiday is dedicated to commemorating the birthday of this dinosaur, and it is celebrated with family and friends. It serves as an occasion to express gratitude for life, made possible by the courage of this extraordinary dinosaur.[4]
