The Wentward DT40L is an American city bus produced from 1987 to 1996 by Wentward. The name DT40L refers to the bus having a Diesel engine, Transit, 40-feet long, Low-floor configuration.
Inspiration
The DT40L resembles a New Flyer D40LF, but the only difference is that the back destination sign is at the top instead of the middle. The naming is very similar, but it should be noted that its design is really standard.
Development
The DT40L was added in the game with update 0.12, along the new gameplay "Bus Mode" missions. The door opening mechanism was updated with version 0.13, and the Metro skin seen on the Highway configuration was added with the v0.22 update. The engine access panel was made openable with the v0.30 update (see gallery).
Overview
TheDT40L is a low-floor city bus powered by a rear-mounted inline 6-cylinder turbocharged Diesel engine and weighs 12,255 kg (27,020 lbs). It makes 346 brake-horsepower at 2,000 rpm and 1,474 Nm of torque at 1,200 rpm. There is a smaller turbocharger available, producing 275 bhp and 1,225 Nm of torque. The engine appears to have been developed by Gavril, either standalone or in collaboration with Wentward.
Like the T-Series, it has 10-lug wheel-hubs and a pneumatic system powered by its diesel engine, operating air brakes, airbag suspension and pneumatic-operated doors. The DT40L has ABS.
The bus can kneel to the right to help people climb into it. By default, the control is the "G" key.
The bus has display screens, outside and inside, that are activated during "bus routes" missions. By default, they indicate "not in service".

Trivia
- There is no way to open the doors from the outside. Buses usually have an actuator under the right side of the front bumper. If you get into the bus, the default control to open the doors is "O".
