Requiem

"Requiem" 「来世邂逅 Raise kaikō」 is the twenty-fourth and the final episode of Basilisk.

Summary

They reach Hattori residence in Sunpu and Kyōhachirō Hattori goes to speak with Oboro where he reminds her they have met when she was young and believes that she has hatred for them for forcing her clan into the jaws of death. He gives her a sword, as she didn't have one, and asks if she would like anything. While heading towards the duel place, Oboro imagines what it would have been like if she married Gennosuke Kōga.

Ofuku tells Masahiro that she accidentally met the Iga ninja and wanted he to be referee of this duel, so that it would be clear that they didn't participate in this war. As she explains herself, Masahiro tells her that her speech only makes her more suspicious. Kyōhachirō recalls the continuation of his conversation with Oboro, where she didn't want anything, but asks him to take Gennosuke's flute and he accepts.

The duel starts and Ofuku tells Oboro to kill Gennosuke, but instead Oboro tells him she loves him and kills herself. In that moment, Gennosuke eyes are unsealed and he sees the fallen Oboro. Panicking, Ofuku orders her men to kill Gennosuke, but Gennosuke uses his dōjutsu to make them kill themselves. Gennosuke then the takes the scroll and returns to Oboro and Kyōhachirō realizes Oboro and Gennosuke were in love. Kyōhachirō then sees that Gennosuke writes on the scroll that the last one alive was Oboro. Masahiro can't believe the luck Ofuku has, but decides not to tell her yet, leaving her to panic that she and Takechiyo are done for.

Gennosuke gives the scroll to Ogen's hawk and instructs him to head for the castle. He takes Oboro and heads into the river where he kills himself while holding her.

Later, Kyōhachiro tells Masahiro that he is going to Aekuni Temple where he will present the flute as an offering. He wonders what happened of the scroll after Ieyasu left it, but Masahiro states he doesn't know. In reality, he had hidden it in a secret alcove of his manor so that the memory of the twenty chosen ninja would not be completely lost to time's passing. Masahiro decided that both Iga and Kōga would evenly receive the promised spoils of the war and negotiated a new peace between the clans.
