Imagine

"Imagine" is an original Barney song that was written for the film Barney's Great Adventure. Prior to the film, Barney performed this song with Baby Bop and BJ at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1997 to promote Barney's Great Adventure. While used in other appearances correlated to the film, Barney performed this song for American singer Dolly Parton when he appeared at DollyWorld in 2004, making it the only time it was sung in no affiliation to Barney's Great Adventure.

Background

In the original script of Barney's Great Adventure (then dubbed Barney: The Movie), the original script dubbed this song as "Imagination", which was a placeholder until the song was actually written with lyrics. Per the description in the original script, the song was called to be uptempo and fun, covering ground similar to "Just Imagine" (similar to that in Imagination Island). In the original script, it was suggested for the song to touch upon who Barney is- someone who loves to be with children, and share the fun of their imaginations, per the script. It was also suggested for this song to explain that imagination works in surprising ways when Barney is around.

While the song didn't specifically touch upon the character of Barney as suggested in the final version of the film, the song still contained visual imagery as originally suggested.
