Sam D'Amato (サム・ダマト, Samu Damato) is a fictional character from anime and manga series of Baki the Grappler. He is the coach and manager of Iron Michael. He appears first in the Maximum Tournament Saga, where he is very protective of Iron Michael.

Personality

He cares a lot about his disciple Iron Michael and bothers about his health to the point of intervening in the battle with Chiharu Shiba. He believes that Michael's fists should not be wasted in a street fight. Like his disciple, Sam idolizes boxing champion John L. Sullivan.

He is also quite honest, like when he admitted that his punch was not so good. He believes that boxing is art.

Appearance

Sam is an American man who is completely bald with bushy eyebrows and hairy arms. He is quite short and Iron Michael even had to look down to see his face. Despite being a coach, he is quite fat. In his first appearance, he wears a gray suit with a yellow tie and black shoes. In Iron Michael's flashback in the Great Prison Battle Saga, he wears a cap, a white shirt, and jeans.

History

Past

At some point of his life, he created the Peek-a-Boo stance, which he later teached his disciples.

Abilities

Despite being the coach of the heavyweight boxing champion, Sam only demonstrated one technique in the entire series, which was when he hit the face of John L. Sullivan's ghost visualisation. Iron Michael claimed that it was a good punch, but Sam said he don't think so. He created the Peek-a-Boo stance, which shows that he is a creative boxer and knows the techniques that are useful in a boxing ring.

Techniques

  • Peek-a-Boo – he was never shown using it, but it is claimed that he is a creator of that stance.
