Pelican Colony

Pelican Colony was a Three World Empire colony located on the planet KOI-947.01 in the Far Spinward Colonies. A farming powerhouse, Pelican Colony featured sophisticated metropolitan infrastructure including an amusement park.

Following KOI–947.01's isolation from greater civilization in the early 2100s, Pelican Colony's population dwindled until roughly a year prior to 2186, when a radiation storm killed the remaining inhabitants. In 2186, a scout party from the United Nations Interstellar Settlement Corps' Great Mother Mission visited Pelican Colony and made a discovery that led to an incident ending in the destruction of the installation.

Overview

Pelican Colony was a sprawling colony complex located in the midst of a lush river delta on the Far Spinward Colonies planet of KOI-947.01. The river network featured a number of waterfalls producing a continuous spray of water that caught the light of the local sun, creating perennial rainbows; the rivers culminated in the Godafoss Falls, which dominated the central area of Pelican Colony. Located in the mountains to the far north of the colony was Hoppipolla Lake, which was the location of a large hydroelectric power dam. The Skritio Caves were situated adjacent.[1]

Pelican Colony proper was built around a central hub with Godafoss at its core and farming fields radiating outwards. Located immediately north of the waterfall were the administration center and the factory district, while the university district was situated due northeast. The residential areas were scattered east to southwest of the falls, with the spaceport and cargo district in the northwest. Immediately south of Godafoss were the Extrasolar Colonization Administration Center and the leisure district, and further to the south lay the agricultural district and fields; the latter locale stretched to the northwest and northeast of Pelican Colony.[1]

Spaceport

Pelican Colony was equipped with a fully automated spaceport.[1]

Administration center

Pelican Colony's administration center occupied a two–story office block and featured a viewing tower that contained the Colonial Operations control center.[1]

3WE Administration

The four–story administration building served as the nerve center of the colony and housed the base's Colonial Operations Control Room.[1]

University

A sprawling university campus was located at Pelican Colony. The campus was served by an automated registrar responsible for asking entrants about their choice of courses.[1]

Hoppipolla Lake and dam

Residential zones

The residential zones served as Pelican Colony's living quarters.[1]

Farm factory zones

The farm factory zones were used to produce foodstuffs for the population of Pelican Colony, and were run by automatons.[1]

Leisure zones

The leisure zones were built to occupy Pelican Colony's inhabitants on their off days, and featured malls, nightlife centers, parks, and sports facilities. Also situated in the area was a theme park offering log flumes, roller coasters, and a giant Ferris wheel.[1]

Personnel

Henrik Lohengrin was a warden at Pelican Colony as of 2184. Residents included dam worker Pablo Bengochaea.[1]

Behind the scenes

Pelican Colony appears in Alien: The Roleplaying GameBuilding Better Worlds, in which it serves as the location for "Let Sleeping Gods Lie", the sixth and penultimate mission in the main campaign. The colony's ultimate fate depends on player actions: if the Guardian ship is completely destroyed, it will take the Fulfremmen with it; otherwise, the Fulfremmen will lay claim to the installation.[1]
