Biography
Hunting the lion
- "You could get shot sneaking up like that."
- ―Paaka to Naru (from Prey)
After tribesman Puhi goes missing following an attack from a mountain lion, Paaka partook in a search party led by Taabe to find him. During their search, they encountered female member and Taabe's sister, Naru, whom Paaka was close to shooting with his bow and arrow. Taabe allowed Naru to join, citing her skills in tracking and ethnobotany.
The party eventually found Puhi, gravely wounded and mauled, and while Taabe departed to hunt the lion, Paaka and the other members were to carry Puhi on a stretcher back to camp. During nightfall, Naru noticed a flayed viper carcass and unusual footprints. Fearing for her brother, she departed from the group to find him, with Paaka being ordered by Wasape to accompany her. The two soon reunite with Taabe in an open plain and plot to kill the lion. Naru suggested climbing a nearby tree and lure the lion out to kill, though Paaka arrogantly dismissed her idea, citing that they should actively hunt the creature. Taabe ultimately went with Naru's suggestion, and Paaka and Naru climbed the tree to use themselves as bait.
Death
Sitting atop the tree, Paaka taunted Naru, before suddenly being pounced on by the mountain lion. Screaming, Paaka is dragged behind a nearby tree and mauled to death, leaving Naru alone to fend for herself. The lion was ultimately killed by Taabe.
