Charlie was a Weyland-Yutani combat android assigned to the USS Francis Marion's fireteam sent to infiltrate Nishimura Station and neutralize a terrorist threat by delivering a Xenomorph bio-weapon.
In reality, Charlie was a Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 model synthetic sleeper agent, designated Ash, secretly installed in the chassis of a combat android by the Company. His true mission was to conduct a trial-run experiment against the Marion's crew, using the Xenomorph to observe its effectiveness.

When Nishimura Station was overrun by an anti-Weyland-Yutani terrorist organization known as the Second Hand Movement, Weyland-Yutani decided it was time to test their new bio-weapon, an Alien organism known as the Epsilon strain, in a real-world scenario. A pre-core directive synthetic was secretly installed into the chassis of the combat synthetic assigned to the mission to ensure there was no hesitation when it came to hurting or killing humans, while recording data on the organisms progress for the Company.
Aboard the USS Francis Marion, Chief Cruz prepared for his mission while some of the other soldiers harassed Charlie for being a synthetic. Soon after, Charlie secretly initiated his own pre-determined operation aboard the Marion by exposing a previously detained human subject to a Xenomorph egg and the facehugger within, impregnating its host with the aforementioned Epsilon strain. When Chief Cruz was able to send out a distress call, Charlie simultaneously sent a silent message back to the Company, advising them to ignore Cruz's call for help. Over the next several weeks, Charlie, who had previously hidden the crews arsenal of explosive and incendiary rounds in a locked compartment, went on to kill a number of crew members one by one, while the rest were subjected to fatal Alien attacks. Charlie ultimately revealed he was in fact a Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 synthetic, designated Ash, ordered to conduct a trial run experiment with the Epsilon strain Xenomorph aboard the Marion.
Death
Before Ash was able to continue with his plans, Chief Cruz, the lone survivor of the entire ordeal, found a pulse rifle and used it to destroy Ash's synthetic body before escaping the Marion. While mostly immobile, Ash's active AI continued to collect and transmit datalogs on the Xenomorph, believing the organism still had a great deal to teach them.
