Big Beard

"What the hell are you?" This article is about a subject that lacks an official name, and is known only by a nickname, a callsign, or an alias.

'Big Beard' was an otherwise unnamed French voyageur and leader of a band of fur trappers, who were active across the Great Plains during 1718. At some point, he and his men encountered the Feral Predator, and he went on to capture Comanche natives Naru and Taabe to use as bait to lure the hunter out.

Following the botched attempt, Big Beard himself was used by Naru to lure out the Feral Predator, and he was ultimately killed by the latter.

Biography

Big Beard and his band of voyageurs were active within Comanche territory in the Great Plains, callously slaughtering buffalo for their hides and remaining hostile towards the neighbouring natives. During some period, him and his men would encounter the Feral Predator, and he subsequently plotted to either capture or kill the creature.

Capturing Naru and battling the Predator

After Comanche woman Naru had a near-fatal encounter with the creature, she was ultimately caught in a bear trap set by the voyageurs. Big Beard, Waxed Moustache and two other trappers would find her shortly afterwards. Curious to see what she knew about the monster, Big Beard would knock her unconscious with the butt of his musket and bring her back to camp, locking her inside a makeshift cage.

After she regained consciousness, Big Beard would approach her and gleefully torment her with a stick, only for Naru to seize it and cut his hand. Irritated, Big Beard had his translator, Raphael Adolini attempt to reason with Naru to see what she knew about the creature hunting them. After she was uncooperative, Big Beard flew into a fury, and it was revealed that the trappers had also caught her brother and Comanche war chief, Taabe. As punishment for her unwillingness, Big Beard had his men restrain Taabe and slowly sliced into his chest with a knife.

The next day, the voyageurs tied Naru and Taabe up to a tree within an ash-ridden open plane, hoping to use the two as bait to lure the Predator out, not realizing that the hunter took no interest in apprehended prey.

After the creature did emerge, and killed several lookouts in charge of the horses, the Predator was eventually caught in a bear trap, and the voyageurs subdued the creature with a net. However, the Predator easily escaped the trap, and promptly began a slaughter of the Frenchmen. Despite protest that some of their allies would get caught in the crossfire by Waxed Moustache, Big Beard ordered his men to fire their muskets at the creature, to no avail. Eventually, the Predator deployed several proximity mines, likely finishing off most of the voyageurs.

Death

Big Beard managed to escape the conflict with his life - alone, he retreated to a nearby stream for water. Naru, who had also escaped, seized the opportunity to attack Big Beard and knock him unconscious. Using one of the Feral Predator's Cut Clamps, Naru bisected his foot and allowed him to reawaken at a campfire during nightfall. Big Beard regained consciousness, and was horrified to see a rat nibbling at his bisected leg. Tricking the leader, Naru allowed him to acquire an unloaded musket and attempt to shoot her. Luring the Predator out, the creature noticed Big Beard's weapon, and decapitated him with his Combistick. Whilst the Predator claimed Big Beard's head as his new trophy, Naru used the opportunity to get the jump on the creature, and shot it in the back of the head with a flintlock pistol.

Personality and Traits

Big Beard presented himself as a cruel leader with a short temper, and took a sadistic pleasure in tormenting the Comanche natives, viewing them as subhuman. He was also unconcerned with hitting his own men during the trapper's battle with the Predator, showcasing his callousness and lack of morality.
