Sumati

Airbender

Sumati was an Air Nomad technologist who attended the Four Nations Summit & Technological Symposium.[2]

History

Sumati was rare among the Air Nomads as someone who was very interested in technology. While many saw the world of science and spirits as opponents in a quest for humanity's future, Sumati saw a path that balanced the two, striking a harmonious balance between them. She attended the Four Nations Summit & Technological Symposium in Hari Bulkan, and was one of the few Air Nomads to be truly interested in the technological innovations.[1] While she stayed at Tako Dormitory, Sumati spent a lot of time in the garden, holding some private meetings. She was given a personal room on the second floor, though it seemed less lived-in than would be expected, and she had very few belongings present.[3] She kept a crate full of moon peach cakes in the Air Nomad storage, hoping to present it to everyone at the end of the summit.[4]

While attending the conference, Sumati discovered a spirit named Rust, who tied themself to a crate of meteorite metal. She was worried what would happen to the spirit if the metal was destroyed or forged.[5] She often wandered the city to look for Rust and kept an offering plate for the spirit in the Air Nomad storage.[6] Her commitment to the summit became secondary to her commitment to Rust, and she was willing to sacrifice her own position at the summit to protect and rescue Rust.[1] When crates of the meteorite metal went missing, Sumati was considered as a suspect.[5][6]

Physical description

Sumati was one of the largest Air Nomads alive during her time. Her muscular frame intimidated some people, in spite of her kind nature.[1]

Personality

Sumati was a very kind woman, and was always considered the calmest voice in meetings.[1]

Abilities

Sumati was a master airbender, and her distinct abilities were rushing forth with the might of the wind behind her to crash into foes and disorient them, as well as using airbending to cushion any forceful attacks. She was rare among the Air Nomads for being a very skilled technologist.[1]
