"Aang, listen to me. I know you don't think you belong in this world, but you never meant to die a hundred years ago. If you had, you wouldn't be here now, and the world needs you. I need you." |
— Katara to Aang.[1] |
Katara is a waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe and the daughter of Hakoda and Kya. The last remaining waterbender in the small village of Wolf Cove, after she and her older brother, Sokka, discovered Aang trapped in an iceberg, they decide to accompany him on his journey across the world.[2][4]
Personality
Having endured a great personal tragedy at a young age, Katara nevertheless continues to have a warm and caring spirit, though the tragedy has held her back from realising her true potential as a waterbender.[2] Her personality contrasts greatly with her brother, with Katara being more optimistic and hopeful against Sokka's practical realism. She is also very determined, setting out to accompany Aang despite having never travelled outside her home of Wolf Cove before.[4]
