Lan was a warrior fisherwoman from Boat Bottom who was called to seek a greater life after she heard that Qian Yu was wanted in her village.[1]
History
Lan was from Boat Bottom, a town in the Fire Nation colonies that was never seriously occupied by the Fire Nation due to its small size, and retained a largely Earth Kingdom population. She grew up orphaned from the Hundred Year War and selling fish at the market to make ends meet. When she heard that Avatar Aang defeated Fire Lord Ozai, she also heard a call to greatness, and Lan knew she had to do something more in her life.
She did not aspire to be a leader, but she formed a close relationship with Taiki, Kiku, Yuxuan, and Chesa when they came together after hearing that a notorious thief named Qian Yu had a very high bounty on her head. They originally went after her for the money, but realized that they needed to help her after she explained that she had taken a valuable Air Nomad artifact from Sparrowkeet Air after finding out that the company was going to sell it to the highest bidder. They agreed to escort her from Boat Bottom to Yu Dao where she could get the artifact to Toph Beifong at the Beifong Metalbending Academy, who could then get the artifact to Avatar Aang.[2][3] It had been a long time since Lan had remembered what it was like to have a family, and Lan made sure that each and every one of her companions accomplished their dreams.[2]
Personality
Lan was a polite and cautious person who quickly formed a close relationship with her new friends, seeing them as her family.[2]
Abilities
As a warrior fisherwoman, Lan made use of a spear and weighted net when she had to fight other people. She would often step into blows intended for others during a fight.[2]
