Kuyan was a waterbender from the Foggy Swamp Tribe who came to Republic City to study if and how his tribe could benefit from the use of modern technology.[1]
History
Kuyan grew up in the Foggy Swamp and became the leader of a group of guardians who protected the swamp and nurtured its inhabitants. Kuyan's teachers ended up sending him to Republic City to see if any new technology could be useful to the tribe.
After arriving in the city, Kuyan was distinctly unimpressed, and believed that city-folk focused on meaningless things such as wealth and creature comforts, and did not know that family and loyalty was what was truly important. He also believed that everything moved too fast and that people failed to see the important things right in front of them.
While Kuyan wanted to leave Republic City, he had promised to bring back a worthy piece of technology for the tribe, and had not yet found something after searching for a while. Having heard of advances in new spirit energy technology, he wondered if it could be something special if applied correctly and respectfully.[1]
Personality
Kuyan was a confident and warm man who valued things that were important to the Foggy Swamp Tribe more than the modern world of Republic City.[1]
Abilities
Typical of many waterbenders from the Foggy Swamp Tribe, Kuyan manipulated the water in plants when he fought.[1]
