Ge was a fisherman native to Linsho, a former Fire Nation colony. As the son of the town's leading decolonization activist Chen Lai, he was drawn into the Restorationist–Loyalist conflict.[1]
History
Ge was born to Chen Lai, a poor fisherwoman of Earth Kingdom descent. As his father was absent from his life, Ge was solely raised by his mother. Even though Chen Lai was a loving parent, she was overprotective. Accordingly, Ge became increasingly resentful over their relationship as he grew older, feeling stifled at home. This feeling only grew as Chen Lai became politically active.[1]
By the time he was a "young man",[1] Ge left his home after a fight with his mother. He believed that he could and should make it on his own, causing him to venture to other settlements where he tried to set up businesses as well as work as a fisherman. As he had never learned to really live on his own, however, his efforts largely failed.[1][2] Regardless, he refused to ask Chen Lai for help as he wanted to avoid returning to old patterns. In the late 100s AG, he returned to Linsho for a visit. Ge did not intend to stay, as he only wanted to attend his home town's traditional Squid Ink Festival.[1] At the time of his visit, tensions in Linsho threatened to escalate.[2]
Personality
Having grown up overprotected by his mother, Ge craved an independent existence. He wanted to prove to himself and to others that he could succeed without Chen Lai's backing, making it especially frustrating to him when he repeatedly failed in these efforts. His growing anger, fear and anxiety caused him to make unwise decisions.[1][2]

Trivia
- Ge, alongside Yiko, is mentioned by Storm Over Linsho as one possible culprit for the arson attacks escalating the Restorationist–Loyalist conflict. If Ge was responsible, he was motivated by the fact that all his attempts at starting a business had failed, causing him to to become indebted to and manipulated by Ria. He would be remorseful over his actions.[2]
