— Avatar Yangchen commanding her guards to take Kavik. |
"Flight" is the third chapter of The Dawn of Yangchen.
Overview
Kavik attempts to flee the Blue Manse but is captured by Avatar Yangchen's guards.
Synopsis
Yangchen's airbending-powered cry brings her guards to her chambers. A pair of them come running down the hallway to block the exit, accusing Kavik of being an intruder. The boy hides behind the Avatar, who warns her men that he is a waterbender. Kavik takes advantage of the guards' hesitation to jostle the tabe behind him and scatter a pile of envelopes around the room, using the distraction to splash through the floor and break his fall with a liquefied section of the Blue Manse, plunging to a lower level.
Although he manages to evade a squad of guards, he gets his ankle stuck on the first-floor ceiling, as the water solidifies around it, leaving him dangling upside down in a reception area. Two Water Tribe guards approach Kavik, one of them a waterbender with a water skin, but the boy manages to freeze the water inside the pouch and pulls his ankle to free his leg just in time to avoid the club of the nonbender guard. He nimbly defeats the two Water Tribesmen and runs to the door, but before his foot touches down, he is sucked back into the manse by Yangchen's airbending, landing in the arms of four more guards.
Avatar Yangchen arrives and orders her men to take him to the basement without hurting him, as she wishes to speak with him. Kavik understands that he has crossed the Avatar, and wonders what kind of punishment he would get for that.
