Akemi was a firebender who ran a food-smuggling ring in and out of Republic City, using the Warrens of the Republic City underground as his base of operations.[2]
History
Akemi grew up poor and unhoused on the streets of Tin Town, a community of outcasts and unhoused people. His business started with him smuggling fresh food in, as Tin Town had a market hungry for reliable nutrition. He then expanded his ring to include exotic and endangered offerings for Republic City's rich and eclectic. This included glowing lobster crab, cactus juice, and turtle duck shell.
Akemi now carefully monitors every agricultural pipeline coming in and out of Republic City. He has contacts with hundreds of vendors and is clever with his business.[2] He has increasingly been locking horns with the Badgermole Triad, a ragtag group of street rats who see the badgermole tunnels as theirs. While the triad mostly tried to run automobile races in the tunnels, they increasingly began to believe that they must oust Akemi to survive. The Badgermole Triad's leader, Hibiki, tried to actively quash Akemi's smuggling ring. Akemi has grown increasingly annoyed at the triad's incursions, and hates that he is being outsmarted by children a quarter of his age.[2][1]
Personality
Akemi was vengeful, whip-smart, and extravagant. He loved to make an example out of his enemies, and to look good doing so. He was frustrated to no end by the Badgermole Triad, as he hated being outmaneuvered by children, and he struggled to keep his composure whenever he was reminded of this fact. Akemi would go to extraordinary lengths to kneecap any potential disruptions to his enterprise.
Akemi was ambitious, and wants to ultimately own Republic City from the shadows. He believed that food is the way to achieve this, as his impoverished origins led him to believe that a good meal is the best way to control someone.[2]
