Skills (Russian: навыки; Ukrainian: навички) are used to interact with the world, whether it be offensive or passive. Skills' values range from 1 to 199, and are affected by their relevant Characteristics.

Gambling | Controls your skill at games of chance, and is used in a rare few dialogue options. | Gambling |
Survival | Controls travel speed on the world map and chances of avoiding all random encounters. Also helps you locate points of interest while traveling. | Outdoorsman |
First Aid | Increases effectiveness of healing items like first aid kits, and reduces the chance of negative effects like Alcoholism and Drug Addiction. | FirstAid |
Stealth | Allows you to go unnoticed by NPCs and enemies and steal belongings. Passive skill, the player does not need to activate a stealth mode. Also used to escape random encounters in the Dead City Metro. | Sneak |
Lock Picking | Allows you to open locked doors and containers. | Lockpick |
Pickpocket | Lets you steal directly from others' pockets. Stealth is also required for successful pick-pocketing. | Steal |
Technology | Measures your understanding and ability to use pre-war technology. | Science |
Tinkering | Increases the chances of success while crafting items, but is not required to unlock the recipe. | Crafting |
Alertness | A hidden NPC-only skill defining how hard it is to pickpocket that NPC. | Alertness |
Modifiers
- Points to distribute are given every level based on Intellect. Fast Learning ability adds 3 extra points every level.
- Magazines can be used to permanently improve appropriate skill upon use. Bookworm ability doubles this gain.
- Skills are also affected by consumables and equipment.
