Lightning (ライトニング Raitoningu?) is a recurring Lightning- or Light-elemental spell in the Tales series.
Arte Description and History
In most of its appearances, the spell involves shooting lightning diagonally toward the target, striking all enemies as the bolt streaks across the field until the target is hit. In later versions of games, when the spell is cast, the spell sends a bolt of lightning straight down from above, limiting its field of effect to a very small area that often hits only a single enemy.
It is a strike arte in Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2, altered from Milla Maxwell's Lightning-elemental spells through her Spirit Shift special ability. It has two versions, both of which begin with Milla striking the enemy. In the intermediate version, she releases a series of bolts that drop down in a line extending from her. The advanced version releases these same bolts but in a widening arc. In addition, it is both a spell and skill in Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. As a skill, it provides the user a chance to automatically cast Lightning while using normal attacks.
In Tales of Asteria, Meredy uses this animation when getting a "PERFECT!". In Tales of Crestoria, this arte has 40% chance to inflict Debilitate on the enemy for two turns.
In both language files of Tales of Symphonia, there are unused voice clips of this arte used by Yuan, who does not have access to this arte in the final version of the game.
