Areulla VIII (アレウーラ8世 Areuura 8-sei?), often referred to simply as King Areulla and alternatively known by the alias of the traveler Wallace Garner (ウォールス・ガーナー Uoorusu Gaanaa?), is the primary antagonist in Tales of the Tempest.

History

For most of the story, King Areulla's significance is kept a secret, and Vincent Bridges is portrayed as the main enemy, but as the plot begins to reach its climax, he is revealed to be controlling everything behind the scenes. In truth, he is actually a being from another planet, the Spot home world, who accidentally drifted through space to Areulla after practicing with strange magic. Once there, he began to work on a type of Precepts known as Life Magic that could get him back. However, this magic required for thousands of lives to be sacrificed to a mysterious stone known as the Pensient, so King Areulla set about thinking of a way to gather the required amount.

Eventually, he confronted the Leymon leader, Couber, whose main ambition was to restore life to the dead. The king convinced him that Life Magic would allow him to do this, persuading Couber to ignite a civil war against his people to harvest their lives, known as the Beast War, thinking he could bring them all back again once the Precepts ritual was complete. However, the people overpowered him, and the war ended before the Life Magic was complete. Due to this, King Areulla was forced to wait for someone with a significant place in society who might fall for the same trick. Nearly 100 years later, he discovered this person in the form of the Pope, who had recently lost his wife, Melissa Bridges, and was looking for a way to restore her. The king convinced him that by sacrificing the lives of the Leymon, he could bring her back, along with the lives of millions of other people. The Pope believed him, setting in motion the Leymon hunt and offering a reward to anyone who captured them.

King Areulla's plans are foiled by the protagonists, particularly Caius Qualls, whose adoptive father, Ramrus Qualls, was one of the many Leymon taken away by the Church. With his group of warriors, Caius defeats the Pope and heads to King Areulla's castle atop Mount Ayre. However, the king is close to finishing his Life Magic, so by the time they reach him, he is able to call upon the power of his home world via a mysterious portal, hinted to be the Triverse Gate. This energy proves to be unsubstantial, however, and Areulla is defeated.

Appearance and Personality

Despite having existed in the world of Areulla for over 100 years, he still has the body of a child, this body originally belonging to Areulla V (アレウーラ5世 Areuura 5-sei?). He has short blonde hair and blood red eyes. His attire consists of a full body suit and cape of white, and a collar of black with red at the tip. His voice has developed normally however, and he speaks somewhat like an old man.

As a Spot, King Areulla is indifferent toward the atrocities he is directly responsible for.

Fighting Style

In battle, King Areulla levitates off the ground. He is capable of three powerful magic artes and a single powerful strike arte, Gate of Chaos.
