Lucas Hilton

"Look, I want to get this guy just as badly as you do. I just don't want to see anything come between you two."
—Lucas Hilton to Quentin Lance[src]

Detective Lucas Hilton (died December 11, 2013) was a police detective of the Star City Police Department and a good friend/former partner of Quentin Lance. Lucas was also the husband of Jeannie Hilton.

Biography

Hunting the vigilante

At the Queen Mansion, Lucas Hilton and Quentin Lance questioned Oliver Queen and Tommy Merlyn about their recent kidnapping. Oliver claimed "a man in a green hood" saved them, which Lucas and Quentin were initially skeptical of. Lucas informed the Queen family that they were unable to identify the kidnappers, as the group's identities were scrubbed and they used untraceable weapons.

Hunt Multinational

The next morning, Lucas and Quentin learned that a man matching Oliver's description attacked Adam Hunt and his bodyguards. Realizing Oliver was telling the truth, the two agreed to coordinate with Adam's security detail to capture the vigilante and stood guard outside Hunt Multinational.

At 10:00 pm, the police were alerted to the vigilante's presence. Lucas, Quentin, and their team stormed inside Hunt Multinational but the vigilante escaped on a grappling line, much to Lucas' disbelief. He and Quentin tracked the vigilante to a neighboring building where Oliver's homecoming party was being held, but were unable to find him. Lucas calmed Quentin down when he became angry at Oliver over old wounds, stating that Sara wouldn't want this, and they left.[1]

Lucas and Quentin investigated the scene of James Holder's murder. Lucas wondered if The Hood had simply changed his modus operandi since they recovered some of his arrows, but Quentin was unsure. Later that day after receiving the ballistics report, Lucas informed Quentin that Holder had been killed by curare-laced bullets. Accepting that The Hood was probably innocent, Lucas nonetheless believed the vigilante was still involved somehow. Later one night after Carl Rasmussen was killed, Lucas and Quentin interviewed the other potential buyers of Unidac Industries, including Moira Queen and Walter Steele. During the Unidac auction, Lucas took Warren Patel into police custody for ordering the hit on Holder and Rasmussen.[2]

After Quentin uncovered footage of Oliver possessing the Hood's costume, Lucas aided the SCPD in arresting Oliver on suspicion of being the vigilante.[3]

Hilton and other police officers responded to a bank robbery at the hands of the Royal Flush Gang. However, the group escaped while they sent out the hostages. He and other officers also responded when the group robbed the First Bank of Starling, and arrived on the scene at Redwood United Bank where their leader Derek Reston was killed by a security guard in self-defense.[4]

Hilton and Lance investigated a drive-by shooting in which Paul Copani was killed and Moira Queen was hit by a bullet.[5]

When Lance formed a task force to apprehend the vigilante during a meeting with Laurel Lance, Hilton attempted to maintain objectivity and questioned if it might divide his partner from his daughter. When Lance chased after the vigilante on foot, he advised against his actions out of fear for his safety.[6]

After Veronica Sparks was killed in a car accident while on Vertigo, Hilton and Lance questioned Doctor Webb about the creator, Cecil Adams, but he had escaped the psychiatric hospital. They later came to suspect Tommy Merlyn.[7]

Hilton joined Lance at Unidac Industries crime scene, where the "copycat archer" had killed a group of scientists.[8]

Hilton arrested Moira Queen for conspiracy to commit murder due to her involvement with the Undertaking.[9]

When Lance was demoted to patrol officer for collaborating the vigilante, now known as the Arrow, Hilton ran into him at a crime scene courtesy of Barton Mathis. Hilton informed Lance that Mathis had escaped from Iron Heights Prison during the Undertaking.[10]

Death

"I'm sorry about your partner."
"I took him in there."
"Because of me."
"I hate to disappoint you, but not every death in this city is on you.

Lucas was eventually killed by Cyrus Gold after he tried to capture Cyrus, who made Lucas shoot himself in the head.[11]

Alternate reality

In the alternate reality created by the Dominators, Lucas was still alive. Just like in the real world, he was an SCPD detective. After Robert and Oliver were saved by The Hood from a mugging, Lucas was mentioned to have reported this to Quentin, the captain.[12]

Legacy

Lucas received justice for his death when Cyrus Gold was killed by the Arrow.

Personality

"Well, Laurel says he's changed ever since his father cut him off."
"Yeah, a leopard and his spots, you know? Maybe pushing Vertigo at his new club is a way of maintaining his old lifestyle.
"
Quentin Lance and Lucas Hilton[src]

Hilton was a calm and level-headed individual. When his partner Quentin Lance was angry with Oliver Queen over the supposed death of his daughter Sara, Hilton reminded him that she would not want him to behave in such a way.[1] When Lance discreetly accused Walter Steele of taking out the competition to buy Unidac Industries, Hilton reminded the latter that they were just telling the interested buyers to be careful.[2] He assured Oliver that he and Lance would find the culprit who shot his mother in a drive-by shooting.[5] Hilton also cared about the relationship between his partner and his seemingly only living daughter, Laurel.[6] Hence, he offered to investigate Tommy Merlyn's business for Lance to prevent further drama between him and Laurel.[7]

Hilton was somewhat of a cynic, believing Tommy Merlyn had not changed from his playboy lifestyle after learning he was the last person in touch with Veronica Sparks, who had been killed in a car accident while high on Vertigo.[7]

Even when Lance was no longer his partner, Hilton still supported him, as he warned him that Frank Pike would have him arrested for obstruction if he interfered with the Dollmaker case.[10] While he was willing to call out his former partner on his mistakes, scolding him for receiving information on Cyrus Gold from the Arrow even after he was demoted, he cancelled plans to go Christmas shopping with his wife to form a squad to take down Gold because he ultimately trusted Lance.[11]

Abilities

"It doesn't make sense. Holder fits the profile. Wealthy dirtbag. Red meat for the Hood."
—Lucas Hilton[src]
  • High-level intellect/Expert detective: As a police detective of the Star City Police Department, Lucas had proven himself to be a highly skilled detective. He figured out the connection between the assassinations of James Holder and Carl Rasmussen, that they were both attempting to buy Unidac Industries.[2] He found out Tommy Merlyn was the last person in contact with Veronica Sparks, and on a hunch, he subpoenaed his club's bank accounts and found $10,000 missing from their operating expenses; Hilton believed Merlyn had spent the money on Vertigo.[7]
  • Expert marksman: As a police detective, Lucas was highly skilled in the use of firearms. He shot Cyrus Gold multiple times without missing, but the latter survived only due to the Mirakuru in his system.
