Detective Fred Chyre (died December 11, 2013)[1] was a police detective of the Central City Police Department and the partner of Detective Joe West.
Biography
Fred's father gave his son a fountain pen prior to to his death, which would hold great sentimental value to Fred.[2]
Chyre once taught Detective Joe West an important lesson: "You can't always save everyone, but you can always save someone."[3]
On December 11, 2013,[1] Detectives Chyre and West investigated the scene of a bank robbery in Central City. They soon discovered it wasn't a single incident but of the works of the notorious Mardon brothers. CSI Barry Allen's analysis revealed that Mark Mardon and Clyde Mardon had escaped to one of four possible farms, so the detectives visited each one. At the last farm, they discovered Clyde who began shooting at them as he ran away. Chyre was shot in the neck and eventually bled to death.[2]
Legacy

A memorial was put up in the CCPD in Chyre's honor.
Chyre's death was avenged nine months later when Joe killed Clyde following a battle with the Flash.[2]
Chyre was succeeded by Eddie Thawne and Patty Spivot as Joe's partner.[2][4]
In late 2019, Joe quoted Chyre's motto to encourage Ralph Dibny, explaining that heroes couldn't prevent all tragedies yet they could still save someone.[3]
