- "I got into politics to make a difference, right? To - to make the world a better place, and Ruvé has shown me that the only way to do that is to start over."
- —Alex Davis on joining H.I.V.E.[src]
Alex Davis (died May 2016) was a political strategist. He was employed by Oliver Queen and was the boyfriend of Thea Queen. After Oliver dropped out of the mayoral elections campaign, Alex joined the office of the winning mayor, Ruvé Adams, as her Chief of Staff. In service of Ruvé, Alex was brainwashed with suggestion pills, turning him into a loyal member of H.I.V.E. and a denizen of Tevat Noah. He was ultimately killed by Lonnie Machin, who saw Alex as an unwanted influence in Thea's life.
Biography
Early life
When he was 17, Alex Davis attended a beach party, where he got drunk with three friends. Afterwards, they took out a beach buggy for a midnight joyride. Due to them being intoxicated, the buggy hit a dune on the beach and flipped over, ejecting Alex from the back window. When the police arrived, Alex discovered his friends were all killed in the crash. Guilt-ridden over being the only survivor, Alex swore to make his life meaningful and entered civil service to help people.[1]
Oliver Queen's mayoral campaign
Alex was employed by Thea Queen to help her half-brother, Oliver, during his mayoral candidacy after being recommended by Walter Steele. When he met Oliver, Alex suggested that he distance himself from his ex-girlfriend, Laurel Lance, in order to maintain a clean image. However, Oliver refused to do so and Alex gave up, remarking that he would be paid either way.[2]
After going over their campaign itinerary with Oliver, Alex asked Thea out on a date, which she rejected, citing her already complicated life. The next day, Alex handed some campaign forms to Thea and she asked him out for a drink, which he accepted.[3]
Alex organized a speech at the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association Gala for Oliver to give in order to help gain the support of the SCPD for his campaign. He also advised against Oliver's idea for a bay cleanup program since he believed it wouldn't attract voters. Alex attended the gala and watched Oliver's speech. Later on a date with Thea, he witnessed Thea beating up another man at the bar. They later met up again at the bay cleanup event, where Thea asked him to be patient with her.[4]
At Oliver's bay cleanup, Alex admitted that Star City seemed to like this idea and his approval rating was up 10 points. After Damien Darhk stormed the campaign holiday party, Alex held off the press and police for Oliver.[5]
When Thea began losing control of her bloodlust, she met with Alex and tried to break things off with him. However, Alex reminded Thea of how strong she was in face of so many tragedies, which convinced her to stay with him.[6]
Alex called Oliver to meet him. Oliver instantly appeared, much to Alex's surprise, and joked that he used a secret elevator to get there so fast. Alex revealed that another candidate, Ruvé Adams, was about to wage a rival mayoral campaign against him. Unbeknownst to Alex, Oliver already knew Ruvé as Damien Darhk's wife.[7]
Alex was unable to attend Ruvé and Oliver's debate because his mother had to go to the hospital for surgery.[8]
Working for Ruvé and involvement with H.I.V.E.
When Oliver was forced by Darhk to drop out of the mayoral race, Alex was disappointed as he knew that Oliver had a big shot at winning and they'd worked so hard to get that far. He asked Oliver for an explanation, which the latter couldn't give. Oliver apologized and Alex accepted this gracefully and left.[9]
Shortly after, Alex was offered the position as the Chief of Staff to Ruvé, who became the new mayor after winning the election by default. Thea tried to get him a job at Palmer Technologies as the head of PR instead but was unable to.[10]
Due to his new position, Alex was attacked by the vengeful Evelyn Sharp posing as the Black Canary.[11]
Death
Also because of his affiliation with Ruvé, Alex earned a spot in the "Ark". He was given pills—which Ruvé told him were vitamins—that made him susceptible to suggestion and thus willingly agreed with H.I.V.E.'s plans regarding Genesis. While on a weekend getaway with Thea, Alex brought her to the Ark without her knowledge.[12] He was later electrocuted and killed by Lonnie Machin, who saw him as an unnecessary influence for Thea.[13] Alex's death devastated Thea and apparently saddened Malcolm Merlyn, who claimed to have approved of him as an appropriate boyfriend for his daughter.
Alex's body was presumably destroyed when Tevat Noah collapsed.[14]
Legacy
Five months after his death, Alex's killer, Lonnie Machin, was finally brought to justice when Green Arrow took him down during Machin's attempt to use a bomb to destroy half of Star City. Oliver knocked Machin out and left him for the police.[15]
