Black Manta, real name David Hyde, is one of Aquaman's deadliest foes and the father of the second Aqualad. Known for his ray-shaped helmet, he sets himself apart as far more of a threat than any human.[3][2]

While having no actual superpowers, Black Manta is incredibly smart and a skilled opponent; he is skilled in hand-to-hand combat and is proficient with weaponry such as as sword. Additionally, he is a excellent swimmer and has access to advanced technology.[2][1] Black Manta's suit and equipment affords him various abilities: his suit raises his human physical abilities to superhuman levels (strength and durability) both on land and underwater. His armor is camoflauged black at depth and gives him insulation. He also can breath underwater indefinitely and it protects him against pressure changes.[1]
