Byun Eui-joo (변의주), better known by his stage name EJ (Japanese: ウィジュ; Korean: 의주), is a South Korean singer under Hybe Labels Japan. He is a member of the boy group &TEAM, and has the positions of leader and singer.
Career
2020–2021: I-LAND and HYBE Labels Japan Global Debut Project
On June 2, 2020, EJ was introduced as a participant in the CJ ENM and Big Hit Entertainment's then upcoming survival show I-LAND.[8] On the first episode, he performed "Any Song" by Zico, along with DANIEL, and was able to enter "I-LAND".[9] However, during the second episode, he was "eliminated" as he received 6 votes and placed in "Ground".[10] As half of the I-LANDER team had to be sent to "Ground" in the third episode, the producers chose 6 people, with EJ being one of them, from "Ground" to be sent to "I-LAND".[11] However, on the sixth episode, he was voted back to "Ground".[12] On the seventh episode, he was unfortunately eliminated from the show and was unable to participate in Part 2.[13]
On January 1, 2021, he was revealed as a member of the HYBE Labels Japan's Global Debut Project boy group.[14] The group, tentatively named &TEAM, will make their debut in 2022.
2022: &AUDITION - The Howling -, &TEAM
On June 4, 2022, EJ was introduced as a participant in the YX Labels's upcoming survival show &AUDITION - The Howling -.[15] In the final episode, which was aired on September 3, he was announced as one of the contestants who will be debuting in the winning group &TEAM.[16] They debuted on December 7, 2022 with the mini album First Howling : ME.
