NYPD Blue is an ABC network police procedural drama created by Steven Bochco and David Milch that premiered on September 21, 1993 and became ABC's longest-running primetime one-hour drama series.
Throughout the series' run, cast members consisted of actors such as Dennis Franz, David Caruso, Sharon Lawrence, Jimmy Smits, Sherry Stringfield, Amy Brenneman, Kim Delaney, James McDaniel, Gordon Clapp, Rick Schroeder, Charlotte Ross, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, Jacqueline Obradors, Esai Morales and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
The show was met with critical acclaim, praised for its grittiness and realistic portrayal of the cast's personal and professional lives even though it gained some controversy for its depiction of nudity and alcoholism.
"NYPD Blue" has won 84 out of 285 award nominations. It has garnered 84 Primetime Emmy Awards, 13 Golden Globe nominations, 2 Peabody Awards, the Producers Guild of America Award for "Best Episodic Drama", the Writers Guild of America Award for "Television: Episodic Drama" and the Satellite Award for "Best Television Series – Drama."
On March 1, 2005, the show ended after 12 seasons and 261 episodes.
